Monjurul Islam Megh : Guwahati International Film Festival is one of the largest International film festival in South Asian. The 3rd GIFF will be held on 31 October to 6 November, 2019 in the capital of Assam.
Jyoti Chitraban is organizing the film festival in association with Dr Bhupen Hazarika Regional Film & Television Institute and Assam Government. The GIFF will be held at premises of Jyoti Chitraban and Shrimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra.
Seven days long the 3rd Guwahati International Film Festival (GIFF), where over 100 plus films from 65 countries will be screening.
The theme of the festival is “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (the world is one family),” State minister for Culture Naba Kumar Doley said while addressing a press conference on Monday, 30 September 2019 at Jyoti Chitraban.
Chairman of Jyoti Chitraban and Chairman of GIFF Pabitra Margherita, Deputy Chairman Ashok Kumar Bhargav and Secretary of Joyti Chitraban and Festival Director of GIFF Monita Borgohain and Director of cultural affair Bishnu Kamal Bora also briefed the reporters in the press meet.
There will be eight categories namely World Cinema, Indian Showcase, Competition Section, North-East Kaleidoscope, Tribute Section (Girish Karnad & Mrinal Sen), Retrospective Section- Krzysztof Zanussi, 150 Years of Celebrating Mahatma and Indian Panorama.
There will be national level film competition during GIFF where 40 films have participated. The best film will get cash award of Rs 2.5 lakh followed by Rs 1.5 lakh for the best director and Rs 50,000 for special jury award.
While the Country of Focus will be Iran, Latin America and Caribbean countries will be the Region of Focus in the film festival. Ambassadors of eight Latin American countries are likely to attend the film festival. On other hand Ambassadors of Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and Hungary have already confirmed their participation at the GIFF. Bangladesh also participates with films.
Polish film and theater director, producer and screenwriter Krzysztof Zanussi will be the chief guest at the GIFF. The 3rd GIFF will be inaugural with screening of Charcoal by Esmail Mousef.
